We must never just 'get along'

Sometimes it's easy to become complacent. In our own spiritual lives yes, but also in regards to the world.

We can become complacent about the world in two ways:

1. "The world is evil, it always has been, and there's nothing I can do about it."

2. "The world's not so bad, people do wicked things yes, but they are hurting and are right in their hearts."

They are both dangerous in their own way, and sometimes we need a jolt to start us out of them.

The first is wrong because, although the world as a whole is evil, every single person was created to be a saint by God, and it is never too late until they draw their last breathq. We must have hope for the world.

The second is wrong because, actually, a lot of people aren't right on their hearts. Despite all the 'be nice' talk going around, the world is getting crueler and crueler. Violence, abortion, sexual immorality, revenge, gossip, and selfishness are all increasing.

I was unconsciously in the second mindset for a bit, until I was startled out of it by listening to a very popular modern pop song out of curiousity, and when I looked at it objectively I was horrified. (In fact, I'm going to be doing a post on that song soon.)

I realized anew how dark the world is, and how sad. It's broken, dying, but it doesn't think it is. Underneath all the glamour and luxury of modern life there is so much pain and suffering, and if let to go on this way, it will only grow worse.

The reason that the world is spiralling into darkness is because it has rejected the one true faith. It has rejected God, Love, and Salvation. And without its core, it rots.

Our generation suffers so much from the modern world. Little children as young as five have their own phone, and become addicted to it, which only increases in the teen years. Teens aren't taught purity and self denial, and so the teen years become a time to have fun and think only of yourself. Why is this? Why can't teens grow up and take responsibility? Bl Pier Giorgio has the answer:

To live without faith, without a heritage to defend, without battling constantly for truth, is not to live but to ‘get along’; we must never just ‘get along’.

Most teenagers have no reason to be responsible, kind, and good. It's pointless for them, and hard. Why would they do anything but 'get along'? We need to show them why they need to be more. Remember:

"14 You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid.

15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house.

16 So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

         ~Mathew 5: 14-16

Be a light for the world. God provides the starting light, the materials to keep it going, and the candlestick to let it shine forth, we just need to accept and use all He provides; we need to stand strong with God's grace. Because we live for the Faith, we have a heritage to defend, we have a truth to battle for, and we cannot just get along.

And whenever the battle seems to hard, recall these words, by, you guessed it Pier Giorgio (I promise I'll include other saints too, Pier Giorgio just has the most amazing quotes XD)

"Jesus is with me. I have nothing to fear."

God bless, everyone!
