Mary our Mother

On August 15th, we celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption, when Mary was taken into Heaven, body and soul. It is a time to reflect on who Mary is, and just what she does for us.

She may not seem important to most people, but God knew that she was the one to carry out His plan. She is the perfect model of virtue for all of us and strives to bring us closer to her Son. It only seems natural to want to get to know her. If we ask her, she will gladly intercede for us as our loving mother and spiritual companion.

It is also very beneficial to make an act of consecration to Jesus through Mary. As St. Louis de Montfort says:

"Total consecration to Jesus through Mary is the surest, easiest, shortest, and most perfect means to becoming a saint."

This means that the consecration is very powerful. Mary will be by our side, guiding us to her Son every step of the way, and helping us get to Heaven. We only have to give up our control and give it to Mary, who will take it to Jesus. After 33 days of preparation, we say a prayer totally entrusting ourselves into the care of our Savior and His mother. After that, our life is entirely in their hands.

How else can we develop a devotion to Mary? By praying the rosary, reading about her, and spending time with her the way we would with anyone else. Mary wants to be a part of  your life, and seeks to enter your heart. Will you let her?
