 Welcome! If you are here, you might be wondering, why start this blog? Why Illuminated By Joy?

Well, to begin, this branched off a Goodreads group I helped run called Illuminated By Joy. The name came from a quote by Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, the patron of the group and also this blog.

The end for which we are created invites us to walk a road that is surely sown with a lot of thorns, but it is not sad; through even the sorrow, it is illuminated by joy.


I started this blog because there are so few resources for Catholic Teens out there. There's lots for college students, and children, but teens, not so much. That's why I started this. It's a place where young Catholics can find answers, interact with each other, and write. There will be book reviews, radom ramblings, theological discussions, commentary on recent events, advice, tips, and whatever else you can think of.

I always loved the stories of the saints. They were always so exciting and full of adventure! But unfortunately, the way they were portrayed made them seem boring, distant, and even a little creepy. Forms of prayer

     We all have to pray. Prayer is a very basic requirement for Christian life, and besides, we wouldn't last very long without it. But what are some ways we can pray? And how do we know which way is right for us?      Below are some different forms of prayer that are good for different purposes. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but they can all be very effective in bringing us closer to Christ. Daily examen      This form of prayer requires five steps:       1.) Become aware of God's presence       2.) Thank God for the ways He has blessed you in since the last time you prayed       3.) Reflect on the ways that God was present in your life since the last time you prayed       4.) Ask forgiveness for all of the sins you've committed       5.) Choose one area to improve on in the future       This can be very helpful because it shows us just how God can work through our lives. Taking a 'How Catholic are you actually" quiz...

 Hello everyone! So today I'm doing something a bit different and more fun after all the serious content. So I'm going to be taking a 'How Catholic are you' quiz from BuzzFeed, which will be interesting to say the least since I'm not too sure how nuanced BuzzFeed is in their ideas of Catholicism.  Anyway, enjoy!  The quiz is from BuzzFeed: 'How Catholic are you actually?'   "Do you practise what you preach" (seriously overused phrase. Please come up with a new one. ) "Choose all that apply."  You were baptized  ☑  An obligation for being a Catholic, so yeah. You aced Sunday School ☒  Is it just me, or is Sunday school not a huge Catholic thing?
